Drinking while driving is a serious issue that many people still die from till this day. While driving if you are drinking while driving any alcohol in the bloodstream is a danger to the passengers and the driver in the car. Also having alcohol in your system can cause dangers and risks of others and themselves and could cause a car crash. When driving and alcohol is in your system your ability to react to situations is slowed and not as normal as it should be, meaning your brain takes longer to comprehend what is happening. When alcohol is in your system your lack of the regularly used motor skills becomes a problem. Without your normal motor skills in use, getting in a car accident is more likely to happen.“Some telltale signs of reduced coordination include trouble walking, swaying and inability to stand straight” (Galbicsek). Too much alcohol can lead to having trouble starting your own vehicle. While driving your concentration is a very important part of driving because you need to look for stop signs, road signs, changing lanes, etc. A person's attention span is very important while driving because they need to pay attention while driving, so they don’t get in a car crash. Another important part of driving is your vision, with alcohol in your system your vision may be blurred and that you may not be able to control your eye movement.“Impaired vision can affect how you judge the distance between your car and other vehicles on the road” (Galbicsek). “Additionally, fewer objects may be visible within your peripheral vision, or what you can see to either side of you when looking straight ahead” (Galbicsek). When you are driving you need to know how to judge certain circumstances and your brain controls how you judge. While driving any vehicle you have to be able to know the potential problems with your surroundings or yourself. Also you need to be aware of your possible surroundings.Judgement while driving any vehicle helps you stay alert and keep you safe. Some accidents that happened because of drinking while driving were: In the United States, roughly 28 people die every day in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. In 2014, nearly 10,000 Americans were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes. Alcohol-related accidents accounted for nearly one-third of all traffic-related deaths. More than 1.1 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics in 2014. (Galbicsek). Why I think this topic is important is because every year thousands of people die from drinking while driving or being involved in a crash because of someone who was under the influence of alcohol. What I want to change is the number of people that die and somehow help people not drink while driving. I could get involved in a program to help those people, or I could make a poster board gather some friends and protest against it and maybe people will listen. What has been done to promote this change is if a person is caught drinking while driving they could get a DUI. This means you could your license for years or even forever. Why it has not worked is because people are still being reckless drivers and are still drinking while under the influence of alcohol. How this topic supports my photo is my photo in in the car with a bottle of vodka and has a fact o 50% of car accidents are caused by alcohol impaired drivers. This is talking about how most of the car accidents are caused by people who drink while driving.
